(Another) Windows Activation Problem

If you're getting an error in Windows Vista requiring you to activate Windows again (after you've already done it) this is a Microsoft known bug. It's triggered by installing a new program, running a new program, uninstalling a program, or installing a device driver.

The solution to this problem is to get the latest updates from Microsoft, which includes a patch to this problem. Oops! You'll need to have activated your copy of Windows to download the patch! Well, the purpose of this post is to explain how to fix this problem.

What you need to do (excuse my excessive detail regular readers, but I'm assuming there may be new readers from Google who are very techno-illiterate):

  • Open the Start menu.
  • Click "Run"
  • Type "cmd" and hit Enter.
  • Type "slui 4" in the new window that appears.
  • Close that new window.
  • Wait a few seconds for an activation window to appear.
  • The new window will allow you to complete your re-activation via the phone. The online method will fail, but the phone should work. Just follow the instructions on the window.
Hope this helps, everyone!
